Open the room-by-room photo-prep checklist to check off tasks as you go or print a copy. The original checklist pages are also included below.
Start with cleaning, light and clutter.
- Clean floors, countertops and windows. Replace burned-out bulbs and use matching light bulbs.
- Open window treatments and turn lights on. Turn ceiling fans, TVs and computer screens off.
- Put away personal photographs, mail, shoes, jackets and charging cables. Make the beds.
Check the rooms buyers will see.
- Kitchen: clear the counters and sink, remove items from the refrigerator door and put garbage cans out of sight.
- Living and dining rooms: clear papers and toys, tidy the fireplace area and straighten chairs and cushions.
- Bedrooms and bathrooms: clear nightstands and dressers, put away toiletries and check under beds for items that could show in photos.
- Outside: move cars out of the driveway, close garage doors, tidy the yard and patio, and put away hoses, toys and trash cans.
Put away pet bowls, beds and toys, remove pet hair from furniture, and arrange a safe place for pets during the photo appointment.
